Experimental Elements

This coffee table, constructed from black walnut, is an experimental use of the butterfly key as a joinery element. It is visible in the top of the table. This element is typically used to stabilize checks or cracks in slabs, but I was interested to see how it would function as a joint between two sections. The curvature in the legs and base is designed to produce a lighter feeling in contrast to the solid top. The table is finished with a wiping varnish
